A cry for change

While the rest of the world celebrates Christmas and heralds in a new year happily, the situation in India is quite the opposite.
A Para medical student, 23, gets brutally raped in our capital city Delhi and no one figures it out till it’s all over!
When the country's youth take to the streets to protest against such heinous crimes and make demands to ensure the safety of women in the country , the Home Minister compares these protesters to Maoists(rebel outfit) and insists that he is not obligated to walk up to protesters at India Gate , be it political activists or the Maoists.
Shortly thereafter, the head of congress Andhra Pradesh states, ‘They should also think that they should not go in a private bus at night. We say we got freedom at midnight but dosen’t  mean we can roam around freely at midnight,''.
Now, the President's son calls the protesters highly dented and painted.
To these men, I’d like to ask – how would you have reacted if it were your sister /wife /mother in the victims place?

Another woman was raped by the very police officials that were to investigate her complaint of being gang raped by others.
A 3 year old baby girl was raped at play school, in West Delhi.
Another three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and later abandoned at Goai village (West Bengal) last week.

A teen who is gang raped (in Patyala ) commits suicide as the police allegedly embarrass her and refuse to register her complaint for over a month.

According to the family the police allegedly summoned the girl repeatedly to the police station and humiliated her.
Her sister says  "The police started pressuring her to either reach a financial settlement with her attackers or marry one of them,"

What could be more humiliating than being asked to marry the very monster that sexually assaults you?
ALL of the above mentioned cases are still under some form of 'grave investigation'.
The most surprising fact here is that not only men but most 'traditional' women as well blame the victims for exciting, encouraging and arousing and obviously, provoking the accused men into committing rape.
If this isn't torture enough , the victim becomes 'a tainted woman' for life.We live in the 21st century and this is the pre historic mind set much of the older generation and the government work with.
The co relation between a woman dressing the way she wants and someone with a sick mind violating the said woman sexually is something I just don’t comprehend.
No woman brings rape onto herself!
If the frequency of these incidents isn't warning or proof enough of degrading human values in our society, I really don’t know what is!The very people we elect to protect us are above the law. The common man’s wellbeing and safety can be put on hold. It’s that simple.
In a country where rape is now the single most highly rated crime, its high time we wake up and take some concrete steps against such monstrous bands of idiots.Touching a woman against her will does not make you a man , it proves you a coward!

This is an earnest appeal to anyone who reads my post to help, help in any way possible to bring about a change in the society we call home.
